Numerical Practice (ICMP Protocol)

Question A computer sends a timestamp request to another computer. It receives the corresponding timestamp reply at 3:46:07 A.M. The values of the original timestamp, receive timestamp, and transmit timestamp are 13,560,000, 13,562,000, and 13,564,300, respectively. What is the sending trip time? What is the receiving trip time? What is the round-trip time? What is the difference between the sender clock and the receiver clock?
Solution
original-timestamp=13,560,000 receive-timestamp=13,562,000
transmit-timestamp=13,564,300
time at received reply=3:46:07 A.M. =3*60*60+46*60+07 =13567secs =13567000 ms Sending-trip time=13,562,000-13,560,000=2000 ms
Receiving-trip time= 3567000-13,564,300=2700 ms
Round-trip time= 2000+2700 = 4700ms
The exact time difference cant be calculated with this information, but if we assume that send-trip and round-trip time are same then one way time would be 2350ms. In this case,
Time-difference = Recieve-timestamp-(original-timestamp + one-way)
= 13,562,000 - (13,560,000 + 2350) = 350 ms
